The Importance of sleep and why you need it high key basic

So you’re doing everything right. You’re exercising, you have a foolproof skincare regimen ,you’re eating relatively healthy and drinking a lot of water but you may be missing one important thing: ENOUGH SLEEP!

Everyone is guilty of not having enough sleep ( I know I am!) Sleep often gets neglected and is often thought of as a luxury but it’s so important for your skin and health! Lack of sleep can cause serious health issues and can intensify current health problems.

When you sleep, your body is basically recovering itself, repairing it’s muscles and organs as well as other things like decreasing stress and helping to keep your brain functioning at best!

Sleep and your health

Lack of sleep can have an immense impact on your health, people who are sleep deprevied are more at risk for serious health problems like stroke, heart attacks, heart failure, hypertension and heart disease. Not to mention that lack of sleep is also linked to a shortened lifespan! Nobody wants that!

Lack of sleep can also affect your mental health, causing mood swings, an increase in anxiety, and depression. It can also cause you to have brain fogs/forgetful memory throughout the day as well as not being able to concentrate on simple tasks.

Sleep and your skin

Lack of sleep can do massive damage to your skin. For one it can cause your skin to age more and It can cause and intensify problems like eczema, acne, wrinkles, dull skin, dark eye circles and so much more!

The Bottom Line

Basically, having enough sleep should be a high priority for you! The recommended amount of sleep to get for an average adult person is 7-9 hours of sleep and around 10 hours for teens (although it can vary, depending on person to person). Even an adult dog needs 10 -14 hours of sleep per day!

Here are some effective sleeping tips for getting enough sleep:

•Invest in a smartwatch to track your sleep! I cannot recommend this enough, it’s such a great way to track your sleeping patterns! I always used to think I had decent sleep hours but after I started tracking my sleep I noticed I only averaged around 4 hours (yikes!)

•Try regulating your sleeping pattern! Studies suggest that having a set bedtime and wake-up time can help in getting all your sleep hours!

•Go out in the sun more! Getting more sun during the day can help you sleep much better at night.

•Try having a warm bath before you go to bed, adding bath salts or essential oils is an added bonus!

•Try yoga or Mindful Meditation before you go to bed! (Check out our mindful meditation guide post!)
